Creative Writing for Grades 3-4

Summer Language Arts

In this fun, fast-paced course designed for students entering grade 3 or 4, students build their reading and writing skills by tackling creative writing projects spanning several genres. Each day in class, students study the craft behind a published piece of writing. Through close reading and discussion, they gain the academic and literary vocabulary they need to understand and analyze the piece. Then, students apply what they have just learned to write their own creative piece in the same genre.

In this course, students write in a variety of genres, including:

Students have the opportunity to workshop and perform many of their written pieces. Each lesson includes a balance of creative independent work and lively discussion, performance, and read-aloud.

This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day. Summer 2020 courses will run online for all sessions.

Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there are more than two weeks before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due two weeks before the course begins.

Summer Enrollment Deadlines: Summer Language Arts enrollment for each class closes two weeks before the class start date to allow time for delivery of course reading material. Summer Math enrollment for each class closes one day before the class starts.

"Our homeschooled son is extremely gifted in math and science.  He really feels at home at AoPS Academy.  Through coaching and personal attention at AoPS, he achieved a 5 in AP Calculus at 11 years old and a 4 in AP Statistics at 12.  He also achieved an 800 on SAT II math at 12 years old.  Our son feels very comfortable in the atmosphere of AoPS, where being gifted in math is not looked down on, but treated with respect.  He has truly found his peers at AoPS Academy.

AoPS Academy allows my son to be himself, learn that there are other kids well advanced in math, and gives him the confidence to know that it is OK to be great in math, and that other people will respect and value his ability."
