Readers Theater for Grades 4-5 - AoPS Academy Morrisville Campus

Readers Theater for Grades 4-5

Summer Language Arts

Students take to the stage in this exciting, interactive reading course! Students will develop important language arts skills while working together to write, rehearse, and perform their very own plays. During class, students engage with several different texts through deep, independent reading and guided analysis. The class features two Newbery-winning longer works that students read both in class and at home, and multiple shorter pieces that we close-read together in class. Each day also features interactive games and public speaking exercises, including class discussion, debate, readers theater, and competitive team activities.

In the first week, students read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Richard C. O'Brien. They also learn advanced literary skills that help them write their scripts, such as how to pitch their stories and format their writing.

In the second week, students read The One and Only Ivan by K. A. Applegate. Throughout the week, they revise their scripts and prepare for their readers theater performances on the final day of class.

This two-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day. It is designed for students entering grades 4 and 5.

Space is very limited for our summer programs. Please do not wait until the last minute to enroll. If there is more than a week before the course starts, a $200 deposit will be due when enrolling, with the balance due one week before the course begins.
