Introduction to Mechanics
Taking a hands-on, experimental approach, students study the fundamentals of Newtonian mechanics: motion, forces and energy. Students discover fundamental physical relationships by designing experiments, plotting the data, analyzing the results, and using the insights gained to build the mathematical models we know collectively as mechanics. These mathematical models are then deployed to solve challenging problems and to extend students' understanding of physical and mathematical principles. Students will come away from the course with skills in critical thinking and scientific reasoning, and will be able to recognize and apply physics in their everyday, real-world experiences.
This course is designed for students in grades 6 through 9.
