Academic Year Language Arts

Our fourth grade students will begin a rigorous study of classic words, Latin and Greek stems, paragraph construction, and grammar analysis. This course will expand on fourth grade reading and writing objectives for written communication, oral communication, literature, and syntax. Reading Sources

By introducing our students to complex passages from some of the world's greatest writers, we teach students both how to understand intricately-expressed ideas as well as to convey their own insights. Below is a sample of the high-quality classic literature and primary sources from which course material is drawn:
  • Moby Dick by Herman Melville
  • Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln
  • Peter Pan by James M. Barrie
  • The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
  • Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • The Call of the Wild by Jack London
  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
  • Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss
  • Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson
  • Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank Gilbreth
"One of the best decisions I ever made was to send my son to AoPS Academy for improving his math skills. The results are simply amazing! In addition to dramatically improving his math skills, my son also enjoys the social environment that the academy offers. Personally, I am very impressed with the quality of the entire staff (teaching and non-teaching alike). I would not hesitate to recommend AoPS Academy to any parent who is serious about developing their child's academic potential in a safe and stimulating environment."
